MILDRED LONG

Mildred (Millie) Agnes Long, beloved wife of Harry Long passed away on June 23, 2016 at the age of 82.

She leaves to mourn her husband of almost 63 years, Harry; her twin brother William (Milton) Alexander; her children, Cheryl (Barry) Knight, Greg (Darlene) Long, Stephen (Dale) Long, David (Dixie) Long; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; her cousin and best friend Isabel (Walter) Hewko, and her very good friends Darlene Sinclair of Regina and Elaine Ayling of Calgary.

Millie was born in Ardrossen, Alberta to Maisie and John Alexander. She started working at sixteen at Woodwards in the toy department. She and Harry married October 17, 1953. Harry and Millie raised their children in Edmonton and Stettler. Millie owned the knit and craft shop in Stettler, honing her business and crafter skills. She later went to work at and retired from the Bank of Nova Scotia. Mom and Dad retired to Leduc and later Lethbridge. Mom was always proud of her children’s accomplishments and quick to tell you about them. Her greatest joys were decorating her home, her coffee, shopping, and clothes with bling. She loved to model for the LSCO or Red Hatter’s fashion shows. Her numerous friends will miss her kindness and her wit.

Our thanks go out to Dr. Jonker, Dr. Brigden, and Dr. Ireland for their thoughtful and caring service. We are also grateful to the Jack Ady Centre. Mom always felt she was welcome and at home when she came for treatments.

As per Millie’s wishes there will not be a memorial or funeral. However, family invite friends to join us at the Sierras of Courtyard 2020 – 32 Street S (Door 2) from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, Thursday, June 30th for a come and go celebration of her life. If one so chooses, donations can be made in Millie’s name to the Chinook Regional Hospital, Jack Ady Cancer Centre or St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit.
