It is with heavy hearts that the family of JAN “JOHN” WESTRA announce his passing on Tuesday, June 28, 2016.
John was a loving man and was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. He always had a smile and positive thoughts.
John was born in Zuidlaren, Holland and as a teenager, came to Canada with his parents and siblings to start a new life in a new country.
He enjoyed his life at work and in retirement, spent many winter years with his wife in Arizona and California; every fall he looked forward to seeing his winter friends. One of John’s favorite places was San Clemente and the coast of California where the ocean called. Every winter he loved to spend time at the beach and always came home with a treasured shell or rock. Many days were spent at the pool and many times we had to get home from shopping so he could play water volleyball at 1:00 P.M. He loved camping with his family and we have many fond memories to cherish from camping trips.
John’s family wishes to thank all our family and friends for their constant prayers and thoughts. We fought hard, but couldn’t win the battle. There is no more pain.
He will watch over us from the stars above until we meet again.
A special thank you to all the doctors in Lethbridge who treated John and Drs. Kerba and Monzon and their team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. A special thanks also to the people at St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care John received in the last two weeks of his life.
Donations in John’s name would be gratefully appreciated at St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, 1400-9th Ave. South, Lethbridge, AB., T1J 4V5, or the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10th St. South, Lethbridge, AB., T1J 2M7.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
