1956 – 2016

Joanne Lee Dunlop of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the age of 60 years on October 26, 2016 at her home in Fairmont Extendicare where has resided since July 2012. Joanne is survived by her mother Joyce Dunlop, two brothers Randy (Rochelle Roy), Gary (Bev), niece Jenae Dunlop, nephew Jordan Dunlop (Kourtni), grandnephew Felix, and her second family Marlie Duncan, Kevin Matis, Kaden, and Mykah.

She was pre deceased by her father Doug Dunlop and her grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Joanne attended the Dorothy Gooder School. After graduation, she participated in the Rehabilitation Society of Southern Alberta and worked many years at Ability Resources, where she developed many good life-long friends. Joanne’s enthusiasm and excitement was always evident, especially for getting the bus.

While still at school, she joined the Special Olympics in its formative years. She was an energetic competitor, participating for over 30 years. The friends she made there formed a significant part of her social network. She loved all events and excelled at swimming and bowling, winning many metals at Provincial and National levels. Joanne earned gold and silver twice at the Canadian Special Olympics.

She loved traveling with her family to Hawaii, Phoenix, and Whitefish, and enjoyed visiting relatives in Northern Saskatchewan and the Vancouver area. She loved music and enjoyed musicals and movies.

Joanne brought great joy to her family and friends. She will be especially remembered for her lovely smile, her sense of humour, and her loving, light-hearted nature. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The Dunlop family would like to thank Dr. Janzen and the CRH Heart Function Clinic, The Southern Alberta Community Living Association, especially Mavis, Matis and Leslie Villeneuve, and the staff at Fairmont Extendicare for their exceptional care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH (2329 15 Ave. S.) with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.
