TRATCH, Anne
Posted: December 19th, 2016Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, MRS. ANNE TRATCH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2016. She would have been 97 years young on December 20th. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Dmytro (Metronius) and Dora (Anastazia) Uhryn, her husband Walter (D. 11.07.90) her brothers John (Martha), Michael (Muriel), Morris (Marie), and William (Mildred). She is survived by: one brother Alex (Veronica) and two sisters, Jennifer Uhryn and Olga (Bill) Michalenko and sister-in-law Marie Uhryn; six children: Ken (Kathy), Ron (Carol), Larry, Sharon (Leo) VandenHeuvel, Jim (Pat), and Diane Tratch as well as 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Anne had a gentle soul and loved all her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews expressing great pride in their Mom “Baba” and Dad “Guido” on a Sunday and know that breakfast and/or lunch would be on the table to feed all that visited. Her prepared dishes were always rich and tasty with cream and butter as was the Ukrainian way. She tried to share her traditional recipes with family but the final outcome never tasted quite as good as ‘Baba’s’. She loved to babysit her grandkids and several of them spent many a happy day in her company.
As the newly born grandchildren joined the gatherings, this family time was very special and a fond memory for all of us. Christmas, Easter and all special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries were opportunities to gather and celebrate.
Mom was always proud of her vegetable and flower garden and loved to share this produce. The fresh strawberries and raspberries were always a very special and tasty treat.
After Dad’s passing, Mom spent several years alone in the Lethbridge home before moving to the Legion Terrace. After several more years of independent living she decided she required the comforts of assisted living and moved to Columbia House West where she was attended to very well.
She will be remembered with many fond memories by all her family and friends.
A private family Memorial Prayer Service will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home with an inurnment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association – 740 4 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9.
