COWIE, Jack Gordon

May 30, 1926 – June 8, 2017-06-13

Beloved husband of the late Luella Cowie, passed away in Bow Island on June 8, 2017, at the age of 91 years. All five of his children were able to say goodbye to him. Jack farmed in the Foremost area for all his life until his retirement in 1995. He truly loved the land and could have farmed many acres of native prairie but chose not because it was home to the wildlife that he loved. How much and how many were not an important item to Dad (Jack). Luella and Jack had 62 years of marriage together, travelled often, loved their motorhome Sally and the open road, especially Arizona. Their marriage was a study of opposites; one quiet and one not so quiet, but it worked wonderfully for their lifetimes. Dad was a long time 4-H leader, a United Church Sunday School Superintendent and was very active in the Foremost United Church. Both Mom and Dad loved Foremost and its people. The coffee pot and a bowl of soup were always on: perhaps sometime at the expense of the cleanest summer fallow in the area. Dad moved on the family farm where he milked his beloved girls as they were called. He hit many a baseball to all the kids in the farmyard, a game called 500 but we called it fights with pushing and shoving to get the ball. Fun had by all. All five of their children, Robyn (Dean) Laqua, Jodi (Don) Cassell, Deb (Lyle) Hollingsworth, Rod (Deb) Cowie and Bruce (Joyce) Cowie settled in the Foremost area. Nothing pleased Jack and Luella more than to watch the development of their large brood of 18 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the Pleasant View Lodge and the Bow Island Health Centre for the wonderful care that their staff gave to Dad and especially his daughter Deb for being a very special person to him inhis declining years. A private family service will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Southern Alberta, 1254 – 3 Ave. S, Lethbridge, AB T1J 0J9. One Condolence for “COWIE, Jack”

  1. Luella Cousins says:

I was saddened to hear of the loss of Mr. Cowie. He always had a hearty laugh and was such a good soul. As much as he worked hard, he always seemed to be involved with all aspects of the community. Although I know he will be greatly missed, I am sure there are many fond memories that remain with all who knew him.

Leave a Condolence for Luella Cousins
