GIBB

LAWRENCE LAMAR GIBB was born July 13, 1922 in Hill Spring, Alberta and passed away peacefully at 95 years of age on August 20, 2017 at the Lee Crest Nursing home in Cardston. Upon passing, he was reunited with his parents George and Ellen Gibb, 8 siblings and 2 grandsons. He was the last surviving member in his family.

He leaves behind his ever devoted eternal companion of 68 years Hazel Fae (Beazer) and 8 children; Marjorie (Robb) Wolff, Rhonda (Dick) Williams, Larry (Connie) Gibb, Robert (Kathy) Gibb, Colette (Rob) Burnham, John (Patty) Gibb, Ramona Weidner and Darryl (Rena) Gibb.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lawrence served in many capacities. As a young man he served a mission in Australia. Lawrence and Hazel served missions in India, New Jersey and Salt Lake City.

Those who knew Lawrence recognized his quiet strength, unquestionable integrity and steadfast faith.

He spent most of his life farming in Hill Spring. First under the tutelage of his father, as a partner with his brother DeVere then as mentor to his son Larry.

Lawrence truly loved farming. He loved the land, preparing the soil, planting, irrigating, nourishing and eventually the reward of the harvest. He would repeat this year after year in a field of several hundred acres, a large garden or small planter box.

“The crop” that brought him the greatest joy was his family which included Hazel, 8 children and their spouses whom he loved as his own, 35 grandchildren and 87 great grandchildren.

In farming and in life, Lawrence firmly believed that “whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”. As his growing season has come to an end he will again realize that “The harvest truly is plenteous”.

Hazel and family wish to express gratitude to the staff who provided home care and the staff at the Cardston Hospital and Lee Crest Nursing Home for their kind and compassionate care.

Friends may meet the family on Friday, August 25th, 2017 at the South Hill Chapel in Cardston from 7:00 to 8:00 PM or at the church on Saturday from 12:00 to 12:45 PM prior to the service.

The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hill Spring, Alberta on Saturday, August, 26th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in the Hill Spring Cemetery.
