It is with great sadness that the family of Gaye Margaret Lehouillier announces her passing at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Gaye was born in Saskatoon, SK in 1926, the eldest of 4 children born to Joseph and Ida Garrett. She attended nursing school at the Royal Alexander Hospital in Edmonton, graduating in 1949. After graduation, she went on to work in Wainwright where she met the love of her life, Jules Lehouillier, who was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. When Jules returned from the Korean War they had short postings in Edmonton, Ottawa, and finally Calgary where they lived for 15 years. They finally settled in Lethbridge in 1968 when Jules took a position at the newly formed University of Lethbridge. Gaye worked in the maternity ward at St. Michaels Hospital in Lethbridge for 5 years before retiring from nursing. Mom and Dad loved to travel and they spent many winter vacations on the beach. Of all the places they visited Maui was their favorite, Gaye loved the tropical flowers that grew there naturally. Her other love was dogs. She had a very large collection of ceramic dogs that were displayed all over the house. Even though she liked all breeds, her favorite was the Newfoundland. She enjoyed many happy years with our Newfie, King. Left with the fondest of memories are her children, Suzanne (Mike) Burke of Calgary, Patrick (Deann) Lehouillier of Lethbridge, Danielle (Rick) Gruninger of Lethbridge and Jackie (Don) Berglund of Okotoks; her step children, Lise Lehouillier of Sept Ile, QC, Paul-Emile (Diane) Lehouillier of Quebec City, QC and Michel Lehouillier, of Pont Rouge, QC.; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Terrance Garrett of Linden, AB. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm., at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 St. South, Lethbridge, AB., with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. A family interment is to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
