On a pleasant winter day, February 12, 1963, in the Raymond Hospital in Raymond, Alberta a precious baby boy was born to Dr. Clair Harker Norton and Gail Louise Walker Norton. He was the eldest of four children to come to this family. Kent was born a normal, happy child and grew into a happy, chubby little baby. But Kent’s life was not to be an easy one. When he was six months old he had his first grand mal epileptic seizure and thus started his battle with epilepsy. Kent grew into a happy and extremely active little boy. He grew up in a wonderful neighbourhood in Raymond where he would often disappear and would be found visiting at one of the neighbours. Kent was a challenge to keep up with as he was always curious, quick and mischievous and had a kind and caring heart. Kent enjoyed going to school and attended the Dorothy Gooder School in Lethbridge. He had good friends and teachers there and loved “shop”, swimming, skating and bowling. This was a very happy time in his life. When Kent was 10 years old his sister Nancy Ruth was born. Kent always had a soft spot in his heart for her, who became a good friend and playmate until she passed away when she was two and a half years old. Kent has waited his whole life to be able to see her again. At 12 years of age, her family moved to Magrath and built a new home on the family farm. Kent loved living next door to his Grandpa and Grandma Norton and living on the farm. He enjoyed being outdoors, helping to do chores and he loved the animals, especially riding his horse. He also had a great love of music and enjoyed playing his guitar, recorder and singing, listening to much loved records, tapes and CD’s.

In 2012 Kent’s family moved into the town of Magrath. The move went well and Kent was happy in his new home. Kent has one attribute which stands out above all others; that is his ability to deal with and be courageous in accepting the lot in life that he had been given, as he has suffered through extreme pain and illness without complaint. For much of his life and especially in his later life pain and illness have been almost a constant companion. Kent passed away on October 4, 2017 at home surrounded by his family, predeceasing his mother Gail Norton, by eight days. His humble spirit and love and companionship will be missed.

He is survived by his father, Clair H. Norton and his mother, Gail Louise Walker Norton; sisters; Denise (Devon) Anderson and Cathy (Brent) Cahoon, his uncle Glen Walker and Mary Anne King and was predeceased by his little sister Nancy and Grandparents; Blaine and Phoebe Norton and Dr. Bernal and Ruby Walker.

Kent and his mom Gail will have a combined Funeral Service at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, Magrath Stake Centre: 21E 1st Ave. S Magrath, Alberta.

Friends are welcome to meet with the family on Tuesday October 17, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Church and Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment to follow in the Magrath Cemetery.
