1953 ~ LINDA PETERSON ~ 2017

Linda Annette Peterson (nee Jones), beloved wife of Douglas Howard Peterson of Medicine Hat, left for Home, peacefully on Sunday, December 17th, 2017 at the Carmel Hospice at St. Joseph’s Home at the age of 64 years. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, Relief Society Room, 1865 Division Avenue N, on Saturday from 10:00 until 10:55 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Ralph Daniels officiating. A Private Interment will take place at Stirling Memorial Cemetery, Stirling, Alberta.

Linda moved with her parents, Richard and Edna (Johansen) Jones from Lethbridge, where she was born, to Taber in 1956. She attended grades 1 – 6 at L.T. Westlake Elementary School, grades 7 – 12 at D.A. Ferguson and W.R. Myers schools, and attended the University of Lethbridge for 4 years where she studied Visual Arts and English while living in Taber.

She married Douglas Howard Peterson in 1977 and they raised their daughters in the Purple Springs and Grassy Lake areas. She was active in her church as a teacher with her 4 years teaching Seminary, her favourite. She was also a leader in Scouting and 4-H programs.

Linda and Doug quit their small trucking company to work on some of the bigger ranches and community pastures in Alberta where Linda loved the prairie, the cattle they cared for, the dogs and horses that helped them, and the hard work. For 15 years she accompanied Doug on horseback and helped move, rope, and treat sick cattle.

They moved into Suffield and then Medicine Hat where Linda never quite adjusted to city life because of her preference to be among nature, out in the prairie.

In spite of, or because of, her cancer she had the trip of a lifetime when she flew to Riga, Latvia for treatment and then spent 3 months in the UK with her father’s family.

Left to be reunited at a later time, she is survived by her husband, Douglas Howard Peterson of Medicine Hat; daughters, Jennifer (Austin) Tondevold of Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan, Sarah (Travis) Bramble of Smiths Falls, Ontario, Lori Jo (Gary) Schmidt of Suffield Sherena (Kevin) Short of Union Bay, British Columbia; and grandchildren, Rebekah, Emily, Tyler, Ethan, Dylan and Sam Tondevold, Joseph and Mason Schmidt, and Thane Nyen.

Memorial gifts in Linda’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A., 55 Southwest Drive SW, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 8E8. Condolences may be sent through www.saamis.com or to condolences saamis.com
