EVANS

Mrs. Betty (Elizabeth) Evans, beloved wife of the late Mr. Alma Gill Evans of Raymond, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Good Samaritans in Raymond at the age of 94 years. Betty was born on October 18, 1923 to Frank and Verland (Kirkham) Leavitt as the eldest of two children. Following high school, she attended Henderson Secretarial School in Calgary before marrying Alma Gill Evans in the Cardston, Alberta temple. Together they had 5 children: Mark (Carolyn) Evans of Raymond, Evelyn (Dick) Robertson of Raymond, Thom (Cheryl) Evans of Calgary, Marianne (Kim) Taylor of Cardston and Nancy (Chris) Webster of Tacoma, WA. She is the much-loved grandmother of 22 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bert (Ellie) Leavitt of Kanata, Ontario as well as several nieces and nephews. Betty was born in Cardston, AB but moved to Raymond a year later where she remained (except when in secretarial school and a year in Picture Butte) until her death. Throughout her life, Betty was a shining example of service, holding many ward and stake callings in her church; her favorite being a Seminary teacher for 5 years. She also served in several community organizations, including two terms on the local School Board. Throughout her life, every minute of Betty’s spare time was filled with genealogy, sewing, knitting, crocheting or quilting, with the end products being given to family, friends and the less fortunate either nearby or to the poor in third-world countries. Betty thought the best way to live is by giving yourself and helping others as often as possible. She loved her family, the town of Raymond, and those whom she served. The family would like to thank those who gave such excellent care to Mom at Good Sam’s. They constantly showed concern, love, and support to her and her family. Special thanks to Dr. Tollestrup for his care and concern. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – KNIGHT ST. CHAPEL – 260 E 200 N Raymond, AB with Branch President Lanny Howard, officiating. Friends may meet with family prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:40am. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery.

2 Condolences for “EVANS, Betty”

  1. Zandy and Jean Henderson says:

We are very sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing and our love and thoughts are with you. She was a special lady and she raised two special people in you, Mark and Evelyn.

  2. Max Evans says:

Best wishes to all the family. I will be seeing uncle Garth. the last of the old folks in Gils family in a couple of months. I will tell Garth about Gil by phone. I see him a couple times each year since we have moved back to Sandy, Utah (near Salt Lake). Garth said he plans on hanging around for several more years.
I always hope I will be on the way to Raymond when these kinds of things happen; but, alas, it’s a long ways away.
    Love,
    Max and Kay Evans
