Don was predeceased by his loving parents Ernie Sr & Marion Mercer, as well as his daughter Joanne, and Grandsons Wade Courtice & Lyle Madge. Don is survived by his sisters Della Katan, Audrey (Dale) Wilson & Myrna Olshaski; brothers Ernie (Kay) Mercer, Lloyd (Edna) Mercer & Clayton (Diane) Mercer. Don had three children with his first wife Francis: Donna-Marie, Gerald (Garry) & Joanne, and two step-children with his second wife Peggy: Neil & Dean Courtice. Don is also survived by his Grandchildren Roxann (Dave) Fontaine, DJ (Ryan) Murphy, Keith Madge & Tanya Madge; Great Grandchildren Brok Fontaine, Quinn Fontaine, Justin Marshall, Rylan Murphy, Ashton Murphy, Aisha Murphy, David Madge, Keauna Madge & Aidan Madge; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.
Don grew up in the McNally area; he attended White school and worked on the family dairy. He was married and had children while working on the family farm. In 1956, Don moved his family to their own quarter section not far from the main dairy farm. Don was married to his second wife Peggy in 1972, and remained married for 24 years until she passed from MS. Don loved to farm, when he wasn’t farming he loved to golf , hunt and of course go to the coast to fish. At times he could be a bit stubborn and give you a hard time but this was his way of showing you he cared. At times he could be quite the jokester, but always in a good hearted way. Don sold his quarter section in his early 80’s and moved into town. He spent his last days at Good Samaritans Park Meadows where they took excellent care of him.
