Joyce Doreen Lyckman

1922 – 2018

Mrs. Joyce Lyckman nee Eely of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Raymond Lyckman, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the age of 95 years. Joyce was born in London, England on November 10, 1922, to George and Christine Eely. Joyce grew up in Bournemouth and married Edgar Langford of the Royal Canadian Artillery on May 6, 1944. Joyce immigrated to Canada in 1945 and lived with her growing family first in Guelph, Ontario, then Lethbridge, Alberta and New Westminster, B.C. before returning to Lethbridge in 1968. Joyce married Ray Lyckman on November 15, 1980 and gained a second loving family. In addition to raising four children Joyce was an active member of the Anglican church and its Women’s Auxiliary/Anglican Church Women. She supported the work of the Chinook Regional Hospital Auxiliary, IODE, Red Cross, Girl Guides and Blankets for Canada including knitting a wide variety of articles. She belonged to the Lethbridge Senior Citizen’s Organization for many years where she square and round danced. Joyce enjoyed knitting, baking gardening, jigsaw puzzles, reading and word games, as well as walking in our forests and coulees where she could identify many plants and birds. Joyce dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always had a warm welcome for them. Joyce is survived by her four children: Geoffrey Langford, Virginia/Ginny Birss, Carolyn Langford and Kathy (Denton) Koenig; two stepchildren: Norma (Henry) Bosman and Warren Lyckman; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her loving husband Ray Lyckman and her parents. Donations in memory of Joyce may be made to St. Augustine’s Church or the charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the ST. AUGUSTINE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411 – 11 Street S., Lethbridge, Alberta, with Canon James Robinson, officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
