Posted: March 5th, 20181928- 2018
Mrs. Merle Alice Hein, loving wife of the late Dr. Stanley Hein and beloved mother of Kent Hein (Jan), Murray Hein and Corliss Robb (Doug), left this life on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Also left to mourn her passing are her cherished grandchildren Sterling Hein, Carlen Hein (Kellan), Natalia Phillips (Nathan), Mackenzie Hein and Meran Robb; 2 great granddaughters Iona Phillips and Hannah Gallagher. Merle will be deeply missed by her surviving older sister Jean Sucloy of Vancouver, many nieces and nephews and dear friends from Rocky Mountain House. She was predeceased by her parents Harvie (Happy) and Minna Phillips; her husband of 60 years, Dr. Stanley Hein; and brothers Harvie Phillips and Bobby Phillips. Merle was born in Calmar, Alberta, on August 14, 1928 and lived there until she moved to Edmonton to study nursing at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Upon graduating, she moved with her new husband to Mayerthorpe and then to settle in Rocky Mountain House. For the next forty years, Merle dedicated her days to supporting Stan and his busy medical practice. She was a stalwart community and Presbyterian church member, an ever-cheerful woman and a reliable person to ask for help. Plenty of food was part of Merle’s generous heart and was shared at her table and at many community events. Merle loved square dancing at least weekly and improved her public speaking at Toastmasters. She will be missed by the many people who grew to love her. We thank and honor those caregivers at St. Therese Villa who have gently cared for her over the past 6 years. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB with Reverend Hugh Jack officiating. A Graveside Service will take place at a later date in Merle’s final resting place in Rocky Mountain House. Donations are gratefully accepted by the Alzheimer Society of Canada, 740 – 4 Ave. S., Lethbridge, Alberta, T1J 0N9.

So sorry to run into this Corliss looking for you on a figure skating thing. Knew your mom my whole life. Beautiful lady always with a smile. I ran into Dr and Mrs Hein in Vulcan Alberta maybe 2001 at a gas station. I was working down there and stopped for fuel. A car rolled in and i said i know those 2. I walked over and said hello Dr Hein and Mrs, fancy meeting you here. Dr said do I know you? Mrs Hein said I think thats one of your babys Stan. That just made my day and put a smile on my face. Last time i saw them. 🙂
