Gladys Galt Redfern

1921 – 2018

With great sadness we announce the death of Gladys ‘Glady’ Redfern on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the age of 97 years. Gladys was born, raised and lived the greater part of her life in Lethbridge. She attended Central School and Branksome Hall in Toronto to complete her secondary education. She trained as a lab technician in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was later employed at the Lethbridge Galt Hospital. In 1943, she married Cecil Redfern of Belleville, Ontario, a flight lieutenant with the RCAF. They settled in Lethbridge and raised three children, Jon, Cathy and Joan, who survive them. Gladys was an avid and prize-winning golfer and curler. She was known as a formidable bridge player and elegant dresser. Socially active, she was a founding member of the local chapter of the YWCA, the first woman trustee of the Lethbridge and District School Board, a member of the Lethbridge Community College Board, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a lifetime member of the Lethbridge Country Club. She was proud of being named to the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame as a representative for the Alberta Senior Ladies’ curling team. Gladys will be remembered and cherished for her kindness, warmth, generosity and wit. A reception to celebrate Gladys’ life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, March 9, 2018 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. A Private Family Interment will be held.
