Margit Burns

1930 – 2018

Mrs. Margit Burns, beloved wife of the late Mr. John Burns and devoted & loving mother of Roger and Dianne, passed away peacefully in Pincher Creek on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the age of 87 years.

Margit was born June 27, 1930 at the Lethbridge Galt Hospital, to Ingbert and Olivia Mikalson of the Enchant district as the youngest daughter of 9 children.

As a young woman, Mom and her sister Ivy ventured off the farm to begin their adult lives working and living in Calgary. In 1962, she married the love of her life John, and built their dream home south of Pincher Creek on the Burns home quarter where they raised Roger and Dianne.

Margit shared John’s love of the land and ranching in the mountains. They both loved to travel and spend time with their children and especially their grandchildren. In 2000, John and Margit bought their second dream home in Lethbridge and enjoyed many new activities that weren’t available in the small town of Pincher Creek, such as square dancing. They thoroughly enjoyed travelling together over the years, including a New England Cruise and numerous U.S. destinations.

Mom became an active member of the Lethbridge Senior Centre and the Red Hat Society in which she met many new and wonderful people. In 2013, she suffered a debilitating stroke. She always said she was a tough Norwegian and truly persevered until her passing with the comfort and assistance from many wonderful staff at Vista Village.

Margit was predeceased by her loving husband John in 2010; her parents; and brothers & sisters Idar, Bjarne, Myrtle, Birger, Emil, Alf, Ivy and Michael.

She is survived by her children Roger (Carol) and Dianne (Dale Potter); grandchildren Ryan and sons Gavin, Nathaniel and Roman, Jason and Nicole, Melissa and Michael and children Cole, Owen and Leah, Amanda and Travis; sister in-law Helen Morehouse; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, April 13, 2018 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
