WIELAND, Brenda
Posted: May 8th, 20181952 – 2018
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Kay Wieland on May 2, 2018 at the age of 66, in Lethbridge. Beloved wife of the late Brian Wieland, she is survived by her loving daughters Sherry Wieland (Doug Kemsley), Melanie (Kevin) Winters, and Kimberly (Steven) Wise as well as precious grandchildren Mason, Jada and Ashton Winters. She is also survived by brothers Russell Silsbe (Judie), Lynn Silsbe (Sharon), Larry Silsbe (Gloria) and Barty Silsbe, brother in-law Les Wieland (Laurie), sisters-in-law Gloria Wieland and Debbie (Brent) Dustin, numerous nieces, nephews and many other relatives.
Besides her husband, Brenda is also predeceased by her parents, Lawrence and Martha Silsbe, sister Sharon Silsbe, in-laws Martin and Helen Wieland, brother-in-law Edward Wieland and numerous aunts and uncles.
Brenda was born in Lethbridge and grew up in the Barhill area with four brothers and one sister who passed away when Brenda was six years old. Growing up with four brothers, she learned how to be tough and resilient at an early age. She loved time spent with her mother cooking, baking, canning, gardening and helping out with the many jobs that needed to be done on the farm. She also enjoyed time outdoors riding her bike and swimming in the canals with her dad and brothers always nearby.
Brenda married her high school sweetheart Brian in 1970 and started a family, with Sherry arriving in 1970, the first grandchild born on both sides of the family. At 18, Brian and Brenda were young parents and often said they all grew up together. Melanie was born in 1975 and Kim completed the family 15 months later in 1976. Brenda was a devoted mother who stayed at home to raise her daughters and was constantly on the road driving them to sporting activities, 4-H, church activities and anywhere else they needed to be, often being mistaken as their sister. She also helped out on the farm providing meals at harvest and maintaining her flower beds. When the girls were a bit older, Brenda worked in a variety of retail jobs, managed a video store and most recently worked in registries.
Family was the most important thing in Brenda’s life including her cherished grandchildren. Though life handed her very difficult health issues she persevered through them with a strong will to live. She and Brian enjoyed visiting friends, going for drives, playing games, going on holidays and time spent with their grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, May 11, 2018 at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 4 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend James Grunden, officiating.

Extremely sad news to learn of, however the thought that Ms. Brenda is now with her husband Brian, family, friends and GOD brings some warmth to the cold news. We ( Ava and I ) will continue to pray for our Calgarian friends that have brought us many fond memories. Ms. Brenda and Brian were exceptional people that sure did give me many smiles, some while cooking “their” way in the kitchen. Wonderful people!
We pray that GOD grants you strength, gives you peace and an Angel to look over you in the coming weeks and holidays. Your family is not alone, you are surrounded by much love.
God Bless….
