It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Peter Globa on April 26, 2018. Don was born on June 25, 1951 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He attended St. Michael’s Elementary School, St. Paul’s High School, and graduated from E.D. Freehan High School. Throughout his life, Don’s two great passions were music and football.
After playing for his high school team and later with the Saskatoon Hilltops, there was more football at the University of Saskatchewan where he also obtained a degree in Music Education, enabling him to share his passion for music with hundreds of students across his stellar career in both concert and jazz band. Don was recognized nationally on several occasions for guiding his band students to the top levels in the country.
After retiring as a full time teacher, he continued teaching part time for several years and enjoyed that immensely. His love of football also carried on with completed dedication to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. His support for the Riders never wavered as he followed every game, play by play.
Don was an avid reader, and always seemed to have at least one book on the go. In between reading he would try to catch up on T.V. series he had recorded. Cooking was another past time he truly enjoyed in his retirement, often trying new recipes he found on the internet. Summer time gave him the chance to pursue fishing in the beautiful rivers and streams of southern Alberta, an activity he thoroughly enjoyed.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Anne Globa, and his wife, Pamela Perry-Globa. He leaves behind his faithful companion, Jake, the latest of the many dogs who were lucky enough to have had Don as their owner. Don’s friendliness, generosity and sense of humor will be missed. He was one of a kind, who lived life large and enriched the lives of those who had the privilege to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society.
Mr. Globa was my high school band teacher. I graduated from Bowness high in 1988

He was my grade 9 band teacher at Montgomery Juiner High School and a source of encouragement to move into grade ten with good drumming skills . I’m sure he new he was very positive in my youth that didn’t come without it’s own problems but made me feel like I belonged in band and school . I have had good thoughts of him ever since . As all good things seem to come to an end he lives on in us who had the good fortune to know him . I’m not the only one he had encouraged . I found this site by looking him up and my condolences to his family . He drove a Pacer !
I do not know if we are related but I feel Donald had something unique. My grand father was born in Kiev and named Globa Mikhailenko. Condolences.
I also had Mr. Globa as a band and stage band teacher in Montgomery Junior High. He was the coolest, best teacher I ever had in school. I’m sure many people think of him often. I’m sure he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. My condolences to his family and his beloved fur baby. Rest in Paradise Mr. Globa
Don & I knew each other from 1963 in St. Michael’s school in Saskatoon. He was a good buddy of mine, and I remember we had birthdays on the same day. I can remember wayback then, he was very proficient in playing the clarinet. I never saw Dan without a smile on his face. I accidentally found his obituary today while sitting having a beer. Something I can imagine with him. My condolences to your family & Friends. We will meet one day my friend.
I had lost track of Don, and am sad to see this obituary. I worked with Don at W.R. Myers High School in Taber. He had taken on a temporary position there while the regular band teacher was on leave. Both of my son’s had him as a band teacher and really enjoyed him as an instructor. He was a legendary band teacher in Alberta, and we were lucky to have had him at our school. Always an engaging conversationalist, a man of many interests, and great sense of humor. Don was one in a million.
Mr. Globa was a substitute teacher for many of my band and jazz band classes throughout many years of school. I was always excited to see he would be our substitute for the day and wondered what new story he would tell us about his dogs. He filled an hour with an immense amount of humour, kindness, and learning, and I’m saddened to recently hear of his passing. I hope he’s still listening to Queen.
I keep thinking of the same word that Jo-Elle used: “passion.” Mr. Globa was the most deeply devoted, enthusiastic, passionate teacher. The only other word that stands out is patience — with me! It is an honor to have known and learned from him. He was a truly fine man.
RIP Mr Globa I was in Mr Globa’s homeroom in Montgomery Junior High and was my Language Arts Teacher great man with a great love of teaching.
I was deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Globa’s passing. He was the most amazing teacher I ever had. He taught me the clarinet at Montgomery Junior High. He also inspired my brother and sister, who played percussion and flute respectively. He was so dedicated and caring to all his students. He was a teacher who truly made a difference.
He played the clarinet. Sometimes he would borrow one from a band member and show us what he could do. He played with such passion and skill that we were all speechless! I wonder if his home-room kids had any idea how talented he was.
And Mr. Globa was the coolest teacher in the school. Everyone knew when he was in before stepping foot in the building, because his Pacer was the coolest car in the parking lot. One time he even gave a couple of us students a ride home in it after practicing late, and I’m sure I didn’t get over that for a month!
I will always remember him fondly. I hope we will meet again someday. My condolences to your family & friends.
I graduated from Bowness High in 1990 having spent many hours of instruction in concert band and jazz band with Mr. Globa. I recently decided to join a local community band and decided to look Don up. I was very sad to learn of his passing, he was the type of person who’s presence could fill a room and he inspired many. Gone but not never forgotten.
