Beverley Paterson

1940 – 2018

Bev Paterson, beloved wife of the late Gordon Paterson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening May 8, 2018 at the age of 77 years.

Born in Lethbridge, Bev was an active young person playing basketball, the bagpipes, modelling and earning her spending money babysitting and demonstrating the hula hoop on Saturday mornings at Woolworths. Bev attended the University of Alberta graduating with a nursing degree. Interrupting her studies was a blind date with Gordon and upon returning to Lethbridge after graduation, they were married. Once Bev became a mother she retired her nursing cap to focus on her three children Jan, Eryn and Bruce. Bev and Gordon loved their time with their family. Years of summer vacations at Christina Lake topped her list of favourite times. Early morning skis on a lake of glass for the kids and an afternoon of tanning on the boat for Bev made those holidays so special. Skiing in Whitefish, golf weekends at the cabin in Waterton and travel with Gordon to visit kids away at school filled her heart with great joy.

While raising her family, Bev cultivated her love of giving to her community through a myriad of roles including: the Lethbridge YMCA, the Allied Arts Council, the Lethbridge Community College, the Chinook Regional Health Authority, the South Alberta FASD Network, the Steve Fonyo Cancer Foundation, Skate Canada, the Southern Alberta Winter Games…to name but a few.

Bev will be remembered for her incredible warmth, love, caring nature, dedication to friends and her strong commitment to her causes. Bev’s legacy continues through her family and through those she and Gordon ‘adopted’ by love. She will be deeply missed by all of them.

A private cremation will take place this week and a celebration of Bev’s life, for family and friends, will be held at a later date.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB., T1J 4K7 or call 403-327-3239 or donate on their website at www.heartandstroke.ab.ca.
