PASSEY

1933 – 2018

Jean (Gurney) Passey, age 84, of Magrath, Alberta, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2018 after a long decline due to dementia. Jean was born on July 6, 1933 in Lethbridge, Alberta, to Albert Glen Gurney and Mary Nancy (Bingham) Gurney. She grew up in Magrath where she attended school, worked and made lifelong friends. Jean, who was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, married Ronald L. Passey on October 28, 1953. She and Ron raised a family while residing in Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat and Camrose. When Ron retired they built a lovely home in Magrath that became a gathering place for their children and grandchildren for many years. She loved her children and spent her life in dedicated service to them, her friends and others. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a wonderful cook. Her cookie jar was always full and her home neat and tidy.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Max Glen Gurney, and by two grandchildren, Daniel Spackman and Allison (Spackman) Morris. Jean is survived by her husband Ron, four children and spouses: daughter, Donna and Kent Spackman, of Tualatin, Oregon; son, Keith and Jeanine Passey, of Magrath, Alberta; daughter, Larene and Doug Zimmer, of Daysland, Alberta; and daughter Karen and Marc Payne, of Lehi, Utah. She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held on Friday, June 1st, 2018, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – GARDEN PLACE CHAPEL (170 North Centre Street, Magrath, Alberta) at 11:00 a.m. after which Jean will be laid to rest in the Magrath Cemetery. Family and friends may meet the family between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
