It is with great sadness that the family of Carol Hnatiw announce her passing on Monday, May 28, 2018 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 76, the beloved wife of the late Zenon Hnatiw. Carol was predeceased by her loving husband Zenon on June 26, 2017, she was also predeceased by her parents Delmer and Alice, three brothers Don, Lyle and Robert Shearer Sr., four sister-in-laws Vilda, Peggy, Jean and Olina Reirerson and one brother in-law Dean Reierson. Mom was born April 25, 1942 in Carmangay, AB to Delmer and Alice Shearer. She spent her early years on the family farm which was situated half way between Barons and Carmangay. She worked hard on the farm, milking cows, feeding chickens and weeding the garden. Later she worked for Beneficial Finance, Imperial Optical and Miller & Brown Freight Lines to provide a better life for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a ROCK and never said NO to anything for the kids, she was always last to do something for herself. In 1959 she moved to Lethbridge to finish her schooling at the L.C.I. Mom would go to the dances that they would have at Henderson Lake, it was there that she met the love of her life Zenon. They were married in 1961 and also welcomed a daughter Kathy (Bill) Harbuz and in 1967 they welcomed their son James (Darla). In 1993 they were blessed with a granddaughter Mikhail Hnatiw (Keith Reron). Mom was really excited to also have two great grandchildren come into her life, Rhett and Autumn Reron. Mom loved to ride on the back of Dad’s Harley as they would do numerous trips over the Logan’s Pass. Dad even taught mom to ride her own motorcycle in half an hour, then they decided to go to Great Falls for a ride. Mom spent a lot of time in Lake Blaine camping and water skiing with the family. She also spent time going to Appleton, Wisconsin to see her sister-in-law Stephanie. Mom loved the vacation that they took to Hawaii and to Monticello, Kentucky where she met some of her relatives that she had never seen. She did a special trip to the Shearer Valley, Shearer Cemetery and the cabin where her father was born which was still standing. In 1980 Mom and Dad purchased Centre Optical. Along with their children they ran it successfully for the last 37 years. Mom enjoyed working with the public and socializing with many customers. Carol is survived by her brother David (Leona) Shearer, Sister-in-laws Doris Shearer, Stephanie (Hugh) Carey and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at SALMON & SONS FUNERAL HOME 433 Stubb Ross Road South (entrance to the airport).
