FERN DUCE completed her life’s journey on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Fern is survived by her husband of 65 years, DeWayne Duce and their four children; Janet(Leslie) of Coaldale, AB, Kendall (Kerri) of Golden, B.C., Lisa (Shane) of Billings, MT, Greg (Annette) of Sierra Vista, AZ; 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren all who loved and adored her as much as she was devoted to them. Her sister Wanda and many extended family members will dearly miss her as well. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Enoch and Gertrude Lybbert, her brothers George and John, a great granddaughter Giselle, and all her half brothers and sisters. Fern was born into a simple and humble home in Glenwood, Alberta, the youngest of a combined family of 12. At the age of 14 she moved to Cardston where new friends were made. She later met and was courted by a “dark and handsome” young man. They were later married and sealed in the Cardston Temple in 1952. Several Southern Alberta towns were home to DeWayne and Fern and their children until the family settled in Lethbridge in 1961. Mom was a hard worker, dependable and honest. She worked at the College in the Food Services, managed and co-owned Tom’s House of Pizza and The Sub Shop, devoted many years to the Alberta Lung Association and worked with her daughter at Village Quilts. Mom instilled in her children the same values that she had been taught in her life examples of compassion, understanding and service. Family was first and foremost. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings. Her life exemplified that of Christ, her testimony of the gospel was strong, her faith unshakeable. We who are left behind have tremendous shoes to fill to honor her whom we call wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Fern wanted to express her thanks to all who visited and have shown love and kindness to her and her family, her caregivers at the hospital and especially the compassionate palliative care staff. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 2223 – 6 Ave North, Lethbridge, AB. Friends are welcome to meet with the family at the church, on Wednesday July 18, 2018 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. to 12:45 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Foundation in support of Palliative Care at St. Michael’s Health Centre. Room 3C60 11111 Jasper Ave Edmonton, AB T5K 0L4.
