MARY MACKAY

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our mom, on August 2, 2018. Mom was born on August 16, 1929, in Swift Current, SK. She grew up in Blumenort, SK where the family farmed. In her teens, the family moved to Alberta, settling in the Barnwell area. There she married, had 4 children and raised her family in Taber, AB. Eventually she moved with her children to Lethbridge, where she met and married her love, her best friend, Dale MacKay. When her nest was empty and with their little dog, L.G., they traveled the ‘highways and by-ways’, exploring their province, and their country, always returning to their acreage in Duffield, AB. There she raised chickens, ducks, gardens, and looked after grandchildren in the summer months. When the garden was harvested, and the canning was done, she would hit the sewing room and start crafting. She attended many markets each year, selling her beautiful jackets, and pot scrubbies. She taught us so much and we are thankful for that. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Peter & Susan Friesen, brothers, Corny Friesen (Anne), Walter Friesen (Evelyn), Herman Friesen (Vicky), Jake Friesen, two infant siblings, Peter and Nettie, and an infant granddaughter, Tracy Clifton as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Mom is survived by her loving and devoted husband Dale; her daughter Sylvia Vermette (Marc); Shirley Hanson; son John Korsa Jr. (Marge); son Ken Korsa (Kim); and eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Betty Friesen, sister Susan (Bob) Louey, and brother Irvin Friesen (Helen) and by many nieces and nephews. Mom, you were loved, and you mattered. At Mom’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. Those who wish to, may donate to the Alzheimer’s Society.

I wish to pass on my condolences to Dale and all of the family. I have many fond memories of hanging out with Kenny and Mary in Lethbridge as well as seeing her at familty functions and growing up knowing her. I will see her in Heaven with the rest of my family when it is my time.

    Love,
