January 8, 1934

– September 27, 2018

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful Wife, Mother, Nannie, Great Grandmother, Aunt, and Sister-in-law, MARGARET MCKAY on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the age of 84 years. Marg was born January 8, 1934 in Nairn, Scotland. She came to Canada with her parents and brother in 1951 settling in Picture Butte, Alberta. It was there that she met and married Fredrick McKay on August 12, 1953 in the Picture Butte United Church. They had just celebrated 65 years together.

Marg was actively involved in Lethbridge Musical Theatre beginning in 1967 with her first show being “Show Boat”. She made many wonderful and lifelong friends both onstage and off. She also worked backstage and was a member of the executive and was an honorary board member for the past few years. Many memorable years were spent as a family constructing sets, acting and singing, social convening, program sales, and great after show celebrations in the Green Room. She was given the Lemmy Award, an honour bestowed by Musical Theatre for hard work and leadership and she was also given a life membership. Marg was a life member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 Ladies Auxiliary and served on that board in many capacities and did many hours of volunteering on several committees, something she loved to do and was very proud of. Marg also enjoyed travelling to St George, Utah every October to watch her husband, Fred, compete in Slowpitch at the World Seniors Games and in the winter months being one of the hockey wives for the Coaldale Sugar Daddies. She also became a team “Mom” to many young men of the Taber Palace Pats when Fred was coaching, a “position” she loved. Marg is survived by her loving husband Fred; daughter Dawn (Rodney) Flexhaug, granddaughter Nicole Flexhaug (Angie Forsyth); great-grandchildren Jenna Arlett, Spencer Forsyth, and Atley Forsyth. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Mae Lewis, a cousin Dougie (Shannon) Grant and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Doug and Jan Grant, her brother/sister-in-law Brian (Pat) Grant sisters/brothers-in-law, Janet (Clarence) Dickout and Charlie (Clara) McKay. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Glenda Wert, officiating.

Memorial Donations in Marg’s name may be made to a charity of your choosing. Cremation entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.

How blessed you were Fred to have her for 65 years…cherish those memories…she’s still with you darlin.
