SZPECHT, Leontyna (Leona) July 8, 1919 – Bakonówka, Poland October 26, 2018 – Okotoks, Alberta

With great sadness in our hearts we announce that our loving mother, Leontyna (née Waskiewicz) Szpecht, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the age of 99 years. Born in the village of Bakonówka, Poland, Leona was the eldest of six children. After WWII, she immigrated with her husband and daughter to Canada, arriving at Pier 21, Halifax on May 20, 1950. Lethbridge was her home for 63 years.Leona is survived by her daughter Annette (Philip) Petrovich and her son John (Glenda) Szpecht. She was the proud grandmother of David Petrovich, Deanna McLure, Heather Szpecht, Amanda (Clifford) Brown and Colin Szpecht. She was a proud great-grandmother of Christopher, Eric, Matthew, Ryan, James, Clark and Cameron. She was predeceased by her loving husband Michal; her parents, Michal and Chrystyna (née Kostecka) Waskiewicz; her siblings, Genowefa, Bronislaw, Antonina, Stanislaw and Maria; and her grandson Andrew Szpecht. Leona was devoted to her family and friends and will be dearly missed.Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Basil’s Catholic Church (604 – 13 Street N, Lethbridge, AB) on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.
