In 1986 they retired and moved to their new home in Lethbridge where they made many new friends. Emma enjoyed her garden, flowers, needlepoint and crocheting. She was a meticulous housekeeper and great cook as she invited the entire neighborhood to visit and eat at their home. She enjoyed company and loved to entertain. Emma loved her Lordand was actively involved in the Lutheran Church. In February 2003, Emma moved into her condo where she met more friends and continued to entertain. Then in 2011 she moved into Sunrise Village where she made even more new friends. Due to failing health, in July 2017 Emma moved to St. Therese Villa where she resided until her passing.
