McCREADY

It is with gentle relief but broken hearts that we announce the passing of our precious Mom, Nana and G.G., LORENE ANNETTE McCREADY at Extendicare Fairmont on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at the age of 98 years.

Mom will be dearly missed by her daughters Brenda (Jim) Clark, Laurie Michelson and Gayle (Murray) McCready Ridgway; grandchildren Erin (Warren) Span, Jill Campbell, Heather (Sam) Gazes, Michelle (Darryl) Jarina and Ryan Clark. She was also the proud G.G. of ten great-grandchildren, Brylan and Hayden Span, Avery and Olivia Jarina, Harper Clark, Hayley and Alyssa Campbell, and Brooklyn, Elias and Lexi Gazes. Mom is also survived by her sister Jeanne Lougheed, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many wonderful friends.

Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Tom, parents Estelle and Dr. Lawrence Rogers, son-in-law Barry Michelson and her brother Bob Rogers.

Mom was born in Forestburg, Alberta on June 23, 1921. She was delivered at home by her dad who was a country doctor. She followed in her father’s footsteps and graduated from the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton as an RN in 1944. The career she loved took her from Edmonton to Vancouver and then to Lethbridge.

Mom lived a long, full life. Her passions were family, friends, sewing, painting, golf, gardening and travelling. Mom travelled the world with the Friendship Force, many dear friends and her children. She visited every province in Canada, but particularly loved British Columbia and the Maritimes. What adventures she had and what stories she told.

No matter what challenge Mom was presented, she handled it with strength, grace, positive attitude and a touch of sass. Mom always had a smile on her face.

We love you to pieces “M.L.T.T.C.T.” xo

A Celebration of Lorene’s life will be held at McKILLOP UNITED CHURCH, 2329 – 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Trevor Potter officiating.

In memory of Lorene, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

  1. Brandi Gertridge says:

I am Eric Gertridge’s mother. He volunteered at Extendicare for several years and came to love Lorene. They had a special relationship of teasing and joking with each other. He misses her very much. Thank you for your conversation with him. She will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to your family during this most difficult time. She will be remembered forever and always be in Eric’s heart.

  2. Fraser, Coleen and Valli says:

    Brenda, Laurie and Gayle:

We were using Google today to try to contact your mom to let her know that her nursing buddy, Velma ‘Murph’ Fraser passed away on September 10th.

Over the past several years since connecting at the Royal Alex, Class of ’44 60th Reunion your mom had regulaly contacted Valli to check in as to how Murph was doing.

Although we have never met we have seen pictures that Lorene sent of the three of you at Christmastimes as you were growing up. Over the years we also heard many stories of your grandparents and how much they meant to our mom when she was in nurses training and afterward.

In going through some of mom’s albums today I saw a graduation card signed ‘Mother and Dad Rogers’ and another note to mom from her mom and dad mentioning that they were sending Lorene and Tut some type of pin for their coats from Birks that was currently the rage.

Then there is a series of pictures of a ski day at a BC mountain, and their class pictures with your mom and ours almost side by sde in the back row.

Fitting, I guess, that these close friends in life would pass from this world almost side by side.

Our condolences to you and your families.

    Valli and Coleen Fraser
