January 20, 1961 – February 13, 2020

Thys Boersma passed away at 8:20 a.m. on February 13, 2020. Thys was born in Taber, Alberta, January 20, 1961. He passed in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 59 from cancer. Thys was able to spend his last months in the company of his oldest daughter, and was reunited with all of his children before he passed.

Thys (Tim) was a faithful Christian who led a challenged life due to an adolescent neck injury, but despite his limitations, he learned to use his hands skillfully to rebuild vehicles, remodel houses, and work wood to create almost anything. Thys loved talking about his adventures in the mountains searching for gold. He loved his children and would do anything for a friend. ~ He will be missed. ~ Thys was predeceased by his father, Arien Boersma, mother, Sadie Boersma, and brother Ralph Boersma. He is survived by his children Crystal Boersma, Salim Mamdani, Justin Phillips, and Jamie Boersma and family; his sister Annette Kempe (Jack) and family; sister-in-law Kathy Boersma and family; and brother Richard Boersma (Judy Schuh) and family.     I was saddened to hear of the passing of my friend. It had been several years since I moved away from Lethbridge and we last spoke and I have just learned the sad news. I recall his wonderful carvings and the many gatherings of friends in his home. Fond memories.
