STAKER

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura on March 12 at St. Michael’s Health Centre after a very brief stay there. Laura lost her battle with cancer but continued to be her feisty self until the end and was able to be at home until her last couple of days. Laura is survived by her loving sister Susan (Peter). She is predeceased by her parents Mary (2017) and Richard (1998); brothers Eugene (2002) and Richard (2011). For the past 7 years Laura was living in a roommate/companion home and quickly grew to be a part of the family. Laura celebrated Christmases and other holidays with the family and even had some opportunities to travel with them. Laura’s last hooray was a trip to Las Vegas in December. Laura had recently retired from ARC after being with them for 30 years. She quickly realized though that retirement could be quite boring, so she started attending the LFS Dacapo program and the LSCO adult day program. She loved art and painting and created many beautiful pieces. Laura was also an avid bowler and participated with the special Olympics doing both five and ten pin over the years. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Yamashita for her care during a difficult time and a thank you to the staff and volunteers from Laura’s programs that continued to be supportive. Due to our present circumstances, LSCO would like to have a Celebration of Life which will be held at a later date. A private family Memorial will also be held at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home.
