Ronald “Ron” Weed

1939 – 2020

Mr. Ron Clark Weed of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved husband of Mrs. Laurel Weed passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the age of 80 years. Ron is survived by his wife Laurel of 44 years; sons Craig of Calgary, Darren (Heather); grandchildren Norah, Jackson and Charlie of Lethbridge; sister Donna (Ernie) Pelat of Regina; uncle Lyal Weed of Rockglen, Saskatchewan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins from across western Canada. Ron was born and raised in Southern Saskatchewan in Killdeer and later Rockglen. As a young boy baseball was his passion. Healthy competition and the excitement of a fair game remained a solid part of Ron’s makeup and served him well as he navigated through life. Family ties were strong and as a result he developed a quiet strength of his own and stood behind others unconditionally when support was needed. In 1965, Ron started his business career of 33 years with Barber Ellis (later becoming Unisource Fine Papers) in Regina. In the seventies, Ron became the GM and was instrumental in building a new office/warehouse in the city. There he stayed until he accepted a position as VP of the Prairie Division and transferred to Calgary where he retired in 1998. A business man through and through he continued to work in Calgary’s Real Estate Market until 2009 at which time he realized that work was interfering with his pleasure of travelling south so he and Laurel packed their bags and spent some winters in the Arizona sun. Ron’s greatest happiness was spending time with his family and particularly his sons and later his grandchildren. He spent many years coaching baseball and attending hockey games. Hours spent on golf courses developed and cemented friendships he treasured. Throughout his life, Ron cared for his family with devotion and love. He will be missed greatly by those who had the pleasure of knowing his kindness and integrity. A Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at a later date and friends and family will be notified at that time. Donations in Ron’s memory will be gratefully accepted by the Alzheimer’s Society of Lethbridge, #40, 1202 – 2 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0E3. Laurel, Craig, Darren and Heather wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge, for the care they gave Ron during his time there.
