Kikuko “Kay” Adachi

1923 – 2020

It is with deep sadness that the family of Kay Adachi (nee Ikebuchi) announces her passing at the Chinook Regional Hospital on May 3, 2020, she passed away peacefully at the age of 96 years.

Kay was born on June 19, 1923 in Mission B.C. she married Hiroshi “Syd” Adachi on November 28, 1946, and they had 67 wonderful years together.

Kay was an understanding, thoughtful, and generous mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a kind and gentle soul. We will miss her laugh and beautiful smile. We always enjoyed eating her delicious chocolate chip cookies. She loved to do crafts such as sewing, crocheting, and knitting – several of her projects adorn our homes.

Through the years, Kay was able to proudly watch as all her grandchildren graduated university and moved into successful careers.

Kay is survived by her children Stan, Al (Cathy), Janet (Peter), Carol (Neil), and Cheryl (Mike), as well as her grandchildren Jon (Claire), Krista (Geoff), Paul (Erinne), Kelsey (Carson), Taylor (Kara), and her great granddaughter Anouk. She is also survived by her brother Tom (Barb) and sister Chiyoko (Rick).

We would like to extend a very special thank you to Kay’s neighbours, Blaine and Mona Harris and their grandson Cade. With their love and support, Kay was able to remain in her home until she was 96 years old.

Finally, the family sends a very heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Lethbridge Family Services and Edith Cavell Care Centre, as well as to the staff, doctors, and nurses on the fourth floor at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Dr. Grant, Dr. Plotnyk, Dr. McKay Steed and Matt in particular. We sincerely appreciate the exceptional care that you all gave to Kay throughout her final months.

A private family Graveside Service will be held in Archmount Cemetery.
