Richard was born December 23, 1933 in Rosenfeld, Ukraine. In 1944 he and along with his mother and two of the three brothers fled to Germany. In 1951 they immigrated to southern Alberta where they worked on sugar beet farms for several years to pay off their passage to Canada. Richard met Else in 1952 and they were married November 6, 1954. They were inseparable for 65 years. They were blessed with three children to complete their family.

Richard was an active member at Christ Trinity Lutheran Church for many years and in many different ways including serving on Church Council, Church repair and maintenance, and Communion Assistant. He worked at United Feeds from 1967 to 1994. After Richard’s retirement he was kept busy with his grandchildren, camping, fishing, gardening, feeding the birds, making quilts for missions, and his famous wine making skills that all family members enjoyed. He loved listening to music and reading. He was handy and good at making gadgets to make things easier. He never wasted anything if he could help it. He fixed whatever he could and if it was unfixable, he smashed it. Family was very important to Richard and those that knew him said he was a good man and loved by all.
