MEDICINE CRANE

FABIAN GILBERT MEDICINE CRANE

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Fabian Gilbert Medicine Crane, on Friday June 5, 2020 at the age of 56 years old. He was born on August 10, 1963 at the Blood Indian Hospital, Cardston Alberta.

Fabian was born and raised on the Blood Reserve and resided there until his passing. He attended a variety of schools at a young age; including schools from Fort Vermillion, Edmonton, Cardston, Calgary and Lethbridge. In his adult years he attended the University of Regina and Red Crow Community College. His extensive training included that of a First Responder with the Blood Tribe Health, Probation Officer with Lethbridge Corrections, Pharmacist Assistant in Calgary and worked with the Homeless Shelters in Lethbridge & the Blood Reserve.

Fabian was very active throughout his life; participating in a variety of extra curricular activities. As a young boy he enjoyed the rodeo circuit and competed in the area of boys’ steer riding; under the guidance of the late Horace Red Crow. Fabian had a connection to horses and would often assist other families with this particular trade. He travelled with a variety of families on horse related expeditions; he had fond memories of travelling with the No Runner and Cross Child families. He was also actively involved in hockey as a young boy; he was known as the “smallest player” on the ice. His outdoor activities included golfing, fastball, track and field and jogging in his leisure time; he particularly enjoyed golfing with his late uncle Eric Buckskin. Fabian was blessed with a grandson, shortly after the death of his youngest son Kaisley, Able who kept him on his toes. Fabian was a man of God, when he had queries about life he would turn to the bible for answers. He attended church on a regular basis with his parents at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

As a child Fabian was very curious and would often get into mischief with his late brother Lindsay Medicine Crane and sister Annette Soup. From his mischievous ways came the childhood nickname “Pinocchio”. Fabian was an avid reader and would often be seen reading from the authors of Tom Clancy, John Grisham & Dean Koontz. He would speak of the world through the books he read; anywhere from politics, crime and world wonders. Little known fact about Fabian-he was a great country singer. He also developed a green thumb and would often be seen pruning, cutting dead limbs, watering of the landscape at his parents’ home. His pride and joy were visualizing the plants flourishing under his care. Fabian would cut his parent’s lot the size of a football field

He enjoyed spending time with his family. He had fond memories of the time he spent with his late grandparents Reggie and Gladys Buckskin and late aunt Freda Buckskin and Old lady, Minnie Long Time Squirrel. Fabian is known as a very kind person who wore his heart on his sleeve. He would help those that needed help-often giving away his last dollar or sandwich. He had many friends from all walks of life; both young and old. He had a humorous nature; often laughing at his own jokes. Never a dull moment with him around. Fabian was the kind of individual that family and friends could reach out to when they needed a shoulder or kind word. He travelled a lot with his parents and would speak of his expeditions with color and laughter.

Fabian is survived by his children; Calem (Cheyenne), Zane and Santana (Nathan), grandson Able, Parents Geraldine & Ike Eagle Speaker: Siblings Annette Soup & Tanya Buckskin & Calvin Black Horse, Aunts, Marina No Runner, Maryann Buckskin, Nina Buckskin, Sandra Shade, Gabrielle Buckskin and Uncles Jasper (Gabrielle).
