MAYO, Allan
Posted: August 10th, 2020May 10, 1964 – June 12, 2020
It brings great sadness to announce the death of our dear brother, Allan Reginald William Mayo (56 years old), on June 12, 2020 in Chilliwack, BC. Left to cherish his memory are his children Steven, and Kristen Mayo. His siblings Sandy (Randy) Stevens and their family; Maureen (Gerry) Prince and their family; Wendy Mayo and her son; Michael (Jenn) Mayo and their family; and Allan’s girlfriend Aimin Yao. Paternal Uncle Barry (Helene) Mayo and family; Maternal Uncle Don (Pat) Depew and family; Aunt Joan (Gord) Jacobs and family; Dixie Anderson and Family; and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Allan was born on May 10, 1964 in Temiscaming, Quebec to Carolyn and Ronald Mayo. He was their first son born, and was a cherished addition to the family. Allan’s early years were spent in Temiscaming, QC; Ottawa, Ont; Mississauga, Ont, and he attended his high school years in Lethbridge, AB. Allan enjoyed hockey in Ontario, and was an avid motorbike enthusiast, rebuilding his own motorbike in his teen years. He owned Goldwings, and other touring bikes up until a year ago.
Allan was a devoted Dad to his two children, who lived with him up until his untimely death from an undiagnosed heart issue. They enjoyed many ski trips into the mountains, boating on the local lakes, they raised multiple Boxer Champions through the years, and Allan built a business legacy for their future.
Allan had an entrepreneurial spirit after he graduated from high school. He owned his first rental property at 21 years old; moving on to his own moving company in Surrey, BC; then a trucking business; and the last 15 years with his pride and joy – Canada’s Bamboo World, a rare bamboo retail and online farm. He started with one plant, which was purchased to provide a quick growing barrier to a bothersome neighbour. He quickly found he had Grandpa Mayo’s green thumb, and quickly turned these plants into an online side business. Allan and family moved to Chilliwack to purchase a farm to grow groves of bamboo for retail and online sales. Allan’s incredible work ethic and dedication proved a successful combination. Allan was respected by his customers, fellow growers, suppliers, and neighbours. He made an impression of honesty and integrity wherever he went. He sold his bamboo to Developers of High Rise complexes, museums, zoos, and customers across Canada.
Allan was predeceased by his parents Ronald (1985) and Carolyn Mayo (2001).
Allan will be greatly missed by his siblings – “Gone too soon for us to enjoy our ‘golden years’ travelling together. Don’t take for granted that there is time to wait for the ‘right time’.” A private time for family to celebrate Allan’s life was held in Lethbridge.

I’m sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to Steve and Kristen during this tough time.
Sorry for your loss. His Mom and Dad were good friends to us and Sandy and Maureen were great at girls camp. Our love and prayers go out to all of you.
