LUMLEY

MURRAY DENNIS LUMLEY, beloved husband of the late Lenora Lumley, passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at the age of 91 years.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Iris (Pat) Archibald; his sons, Don (Marni), Dale (Betty), Dean (Valerie), Lawrence (Renee) and Darrell (Robin) Lumley; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; his sister Myrna (Slim) Clements; brothers, Don, Lorne, Ken and Joe (Jean) as well as many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Along with his wife Lenora, dad was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Doreen Lumley and brothers, Bill, Alan and Barry.

Dad was born on August 31, 1929 in Riverhurst, Sask. In 1947 the family moved to the Lethbridge area and dad worked whatever jobs he could find from an early age. He worked on farms, drove dynamite trucks and did warehouse work at Western Canada Hardware and Explosives Ltd., was a stock handler for Lethbridge Stockyards and then a Commissionaire, to name a few. He was forced to quit work in his early 40s because of health problems resulting in many surgeries over the years.

Dad married Lenora, the love of his life, on December 27, 1952 and just before he shipped overseas to Korea. He came home after serving 14 months and became a dedicated member of the Korea Veterans Association.

Dad loved to garden and was extremely proud of everything he grew. He was a good mechanic and could fix almost anything with an engine. Dad was also an excellent carpenter. In 1965 he moved the family to a small acreage in the Coalhurst area where he raised some livestock and grew his bountiful garden. Dad was a lifetime member of and kept busy with the Hilltoppers Gymkhana Club. He had a deep baritone voice and could often be heard singing or whistling while milking the cows. Dad loved to fish, hunt and camp and had many great trips with his family and friends. He was also an avid cribbage player and always enjoyed a good game or two. He usually won and quite often “skunked” his opponents.

Our family would like to thank the caregivers from Lethbridge Family Services, the Coalhurst Firefighters and the Lethbridge Ambulance Service for all the great care dad received. Also thank you to Dr. Michael Cunningham for his skilled compassion and support for the past few years.

A Come and Go Reception to celebrate dad’s life will be held at the LUMLEY FARM, on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 1:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. in one of the areas he took the most pride in – “Dad’s Camp Kitchen”.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Murray, please consider a donation to STARS (Box 570, Calgary, AB, T2E 8M7).
