Katie Regier

1942 – 2020

“For I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength”

Philippeans 4:13

With saddened hearts, but thankfulness for a life well lived, we said goodbye to a tremendous wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, in the early morning hours of October 4, 2020.

Katie was born in the Mennonite settlement of Wernersdorf USSR (now Ukrain), to Henry and Maria (Peters) Heidebrecht. After losing her father amidst the tragedies of WWII, Katie along with 4 generations of her family eventually made their way to Canada and settled in the Coaldale area. Katie attended school in Coaldale and made many lifelong friends. In 1965 she married the love of her life John Regier. Katie and John were blessed with two beautiful daughters and five amazing grandchildren. A diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis in early adulthood made much of life challenging, but Katie faced it with courage and never let it get in the way of enjoying the many blessings of life.

Katie accepted Christ at a young age and this faith sustained her through the many obstacles she experienced in life.

Katie was predeceased by her parents Henry and Maria Heidebrecht.

Besides her loving husband John, Katie is survived by her children Shari (Jeff) Ruggles, Bonnie (Jamie) Chartier; also mourning her loss are her five grandchildren Taylor (Dan) Pinto, Tannis Chartier, Zak Ruggles, Connor (Andrea) Chartier, Benjamin Chartier; siblings Henry (Cheryl) Heidebrecht, Helen (Ed) Hendricks as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 5:00pm and 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at the MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

Due to the recent restrictions surrounding COVID-19, a private family service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 8, 2020, with Pastor Dave Acree, officiating. The family invites you to watch the service via livestream on the Martin Brothers website under Katie’s obituary notice. An inurnment was held prior in the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Katie’s name may be made to The Gideons, PO Box 3619 Stn Main, Guelph, Ontario N1H 9Z9.

  1. Paul and Yvonne Rempel says:

    Dear John and Family,
It was only a bit ago we learned Katie was diagnosed with cancer (what a shock it was), and so quickly she has passed into Jesus loving arms. We always admired Katie. She was a beautiful example of her Heavenly Father. Her loving spirit, infectious smile, and willingness to help out where needed, will definitely follow her. Katie, you will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved you. We will miss the short visits with you after the church services.
John, and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time in your lives. We pray you will experience Jesus arms of love and care around you. Paul and I love you. ❤️🙏
