BARTON WADE ATWOOD
BARTON ATWOOD, beloved husband of Gloria Denise (Broadhead), passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his home in Cardston, Alberta with complications from Heart Disease.
Born February 27, 1961 in Cardston, Alberta to Glen Atwood and Elva Gales, he was raised in a family of 11 children, Delroy, Don, Maralyn, Cheryle, Glenda, Myrna, Susan, Brian (deceased), then Bart, Shelly and Donna.
He served in the Bogota Colombia Mission, keeping up on his Spanish and love of the people to this day.
He came home to his high school sweetheart and they were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple May 28, 1982. They were a match made in heaven.
They have two beloved children and three grandchildren. Kelinda Kozak (Steve) with Austin, Layna, and Ella; and Mario (Chanda Guignard).
Bart was Director of Infrastructure Services, a long-time employee of the town of Cardston, keeping all departments running at their best. He was trustworthy, a man of integrity, reliable and hard working.
Bart was good to this world. He was full of selfless love for all, serving without hesitation. He was a great example of kindness, humility, love and laughter. He spent a lifetime creating, fixing, and building everything. He had a quiet and tender demeaner, always pointing out the good in people or a situation. He had a great love of scouting and influenced many young men. His spirituality carved the path for all to follow to find happiness in life no matter what they might be going through. He worked hard, played hard, and loved hard, despite his struggle with diabetes and heart challenges. He truly lived his best life.
He will be missed by his wonderful wife, children and grandchildren, his and Gloria’s families. All are blessed to have known this great man.
At Bart’s request, there will be no funeral service.
Bart will be missed. Although I did not have the opportunity for a lot of interaction with him, what I did know of him and heard others say of him was ALWAYS in a positive light. He lived his religion very well and the fact that he looked for and brought out the best in others, truly speaks to this. Such an admirable quality to live life in such a Christlike way. Bart and Gloria were so well suited for each other. Both live(d) their lives in a quiet way; with their actions saying so much more than words ever can. May those loved ones left behind feel peace and comfort in the knowledge that they will see and be with him again.
My deepest condolences to Gloria and your family. I remember Bart playing Souza phone in Marching band. Always had a kind word to those in the band. He’ll be missed by many.
I’m going to miss Bart, every time I saw him he always said hi. I’m going to miss him. Whenever I went to Gloria’s and Barts house I always felt the spirit and I felt it so strongly with these wonderful people, I am so blessed to have Gloria and Bart as part of my forever friends.
