BUCKSKIN – NO RUNNER

MARINA JOYCE BUCKSKIN – NO RUNNER, (Ootak’skii) passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the age of 85 years.

She leaves behind her children: Mary Ann Bucksin, Sandra (Chris) Shade, Delvin (Lisa Rose) No Runner, Cheryl (Julius) Spear Chief and Clayton (Sandra) No Runner, as well as her siblings Geraldine (Ike) Eagle Speaker and Jasper (Gabriel) Buckskin.

Marina will be remembered as a fun loving person. She was young at heart and always so humourous. She was strong in spirit, a faithful believer who prayed her Rosary daily, and throughout the long decline of health, she remained happy and gave good energy to the end of her life. As the family matriarch, she was a great mentor and loved all of her family, the five generations of nieces and nephews, her 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, all feel the loss of Marina.

Marina was a character and was hilarious in her ways. Though not intentionally, she would misinterpret words and say the funniest things but also she was fierce, such a feisty little woman who had the best comebacks when joking with her sons. She will be missed.

Marina was born on May 21, 1935 to Reggie and Gladys Buckskin. She was born near the coal mines at the north end of the Blood Reserve and was delivered there by midwives. She was an only child for six years and was adored by her parents and grandparents, Minnie Long Time Squirrel and Black Horse. Her grandfather, Black Horse, was an affluent man and especially doted on Marina, ensuring she was dressed in the finest. She was always a stylish woman throughout her lifetime. Marina was from the Tall Timber Clan. She was a residential school survivor and was the loving companion to Lawrence No Runner. They were a happy couple throughout their union. She drove school bus for over 25 years and was active in many things. She won the 1980 Western Canadian Ladies Horse Shoe Championship. Marina supported her family faithfully throughout her lifetime and was always in attendance at awards for her grandchildren. Marina had a close relationship with her sister-in-law Della No Runner (Horace Red Crow) and spent the later years of her life living with Della.

She goes to meet her Creator, and be united with Lawrence and her children: Brian, Darryl and Robert, her grandson Roddy Kent, parents: Reggie and Gladys Buckskin, grandparents: Minnie Long Time Squirrel and Black Horse, siblings: Eric, Freda and Leslie, her in-laws Bob and Helen No Runner, brother-in-law Donald No Runner and Horace Red Crow, and sisters-in-law Dorothy (Dominic) Cross Child, Philomena (Gilbert) Little Bear and Frances No Runner.
