PAPP

With great sadness, we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, SARA PAPP, on Monday, March 15th, 2021, at the age of 88 years.

She leaves her sons, Nick (Cathy), Louie (Jan), Julius (Jaye) and Bill (Sally); grandchildren Nicholas (Phaedra), Julie (Dale Jeremias), Jessica (Richard Egelston), Chelsea (Cody Pahl), Stefanie (Pete Brooks), Melissa (Davis Allan), Rachel (Kory Podrasky), and Courtenay (Dylan Sutherland); nine great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Elizabeth, and her husband, Sandor Major, in Budapest.

Most of Sara’s Hungarian family is now gone. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband, brother, and in-laws.

Sara Konkoly Papp was born March 28th, 1932, in Heves, Hungary. In September of 1952, she married Miklos Papp of Budapest, Hungary. Sara and Nick fled Hungary along with their son Miklos, during the Hungarian revolution of 1956. They came to Canada on the Italian Liner “Saturina” in 1957. They then travelled by train from Halifax to work in southern Alberta.

Life was very different from the city of Budapest! Sara hoed beets, worked in a Chinese restaurant, Broder’s and Trans Canada. The eventually settled on an acreage just outside of Lethbridge. Three more boys were added to the family. Sara loved bingo, socializing and Chinese food! She made great cabbage rolls and kiefle cookies. Her greatest love of all was her four boys! Sara worked very hard her whole life and it was always for the boys!

Sara also loved to travel. She visited home (Hungary) several times and Florida, Jamaica and Las Vegas. She also loved day trips to Waterton and her Hungarian embroidered tablecloths!

No service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer with the family.
