WOOD BENNETT

February 13, 1941 – March 14, 2021

Jutta Rosemarie Wood Bennett, beloved wife of LaVoy Bennett of Cardston, AB passed away in Lethbridge at the age of 80 years. Jutta was born in Dessau, Sachsen Anhald, Germany on February 13, 1941. She immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her family and later moved to Bountiful, Utah. In 1970 Jutta returned to Canada settling in Cardston, AB where she taught school for 36 years.

She was very dedicated to her church, her family, and her community and loved to travel. Jutta served in many church capacities including working in the LDS temple, the LDS temple visitors center, and she recently completed a stake welfare mission.

In her community she served on the Hospital Auxiliary Board, Allied Arts Board, as a long-term care volunteer, and museum host. Jutta was the South Zone Representative of the Southwest Alberta Retired Teachers Association. For fun she was a member of the Red Hat Society Chief Mountain Belles and the treasurer for the Chinook Country Pacers chapter of the Volkssporting Club logging over 50,000km. She also loved going for a drive to Waterton Park to hike, snowshoe or just site see.

Jutta was predeceased by her husband K. Grant Wood, her parents, Walter and Dora Gerstner and her brother-in-law, Horst Koeppen.

She leaves to mourn her husband LaVoy Bennett; her children: Lisa (Mike) Jensen, Peter (Kathryn) VanderHeide, Walter (Ana) VanderHeide, and Ken Wood. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Levon (Alexandra) Jensen, Corbin Jensen, Kelten Jensen, Katelyn (Jon) Webb, Hannah (Andrew) Flint, Brooke VanderHeide, and Ryan VanderHeide; and her great grandsons Oliver Jensen, Owen Webb, Henry Webb, and Jay Flint; and her brother Max (Judy) Gerstner and sister Margitta Koeppen, plus nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may watch the livestream beginning at 10:45 a.m. by clicking on the link on the bottom of the Jutta’s obituary. Interment will follow in the Cardston Cemetery.
