CARPENTER

January 21, 1931 – March 26, 2021

It is with broken hearts we announce the loss of our mother, grandmother, and best friend, DOREEN CARPENTER of Lethbridge. Doreen passed away at Legacy Lodge, on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the age of 90 years. She was the forever love of the late Johnny Carpenter.

Doreen and Johnny met when they were 17 years old, and married three years later. Together, they raised one daughter Lynda (Jim) Selman, and four “North Side” boys: Buzz (Wendy), David, Russell (Michele) and John (Pat).

She was such a proud grandmother of 13, and great-grandmother of 12. Each one of them knew when she came to visit, that there would be kisses and a hug that was just a little too tight. She loved them all so very much. She is also survived by one sister, Connie Jones, as well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Doreen was predeceased by her parents, Mathew and Mary Bolokoski, one grandson Dana Carpenter, as well as five siblings: Trudy, Doris, Lawrence, Roy and Audrey.

Doreen was a fierce protector of her children and grandchildren. Although she was our lone parent for the past 48 years, we never felt deprived of love. We all respected Mom, not only because we loved her, but because she demanded it of us. She lovingly was given the name “the little general”.

How Mom could make a gourmet meal out of next to nothing was amazing. Wow, could that woman cook, and cook she did. Three meals a day, even when she lived alone.

The achievement Mom was most proud of was her librarian certificate. With this, she was able to set up the New Picture Butte Library. Being the head librarian, she organized many activities including her favorite, the Art Shows. Mom often commented how she loved every moment of working there. After her retirement, she volunteered for the Lakeview School lunch program, and made many good friends there.

We wish to thank the staff of Legacy Lodge for all the loving care given to Mom during her stay.

Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, please give someone you love a hug, that might be, “just a little too tight.
