Margaret “June” Hood

1927 – 2021

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret “June” Hood of Lethbridge, beloved spouse of Stan Dean. June passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the age of 93 years.

June was born in Eston, Saskatchewan on June 16, 1927, to Roy and Ellen Topp. After growing up on the farm near Plato, Saskatchewan, she obtained her teaching certificate, and moved to Southern Alberta and began her teaching career. She met and married William (Bill) Hood and had 3 daughters, and 1 son. June taught grade 3/4 at McNally School for 30 years. June was an avid volunteer with the Lethbridge Ladies Auxiliary of Branch No. 4 for many years. She became president of the Ladies Auxiliary and received the highest possible award given, the “Palm Leaf”. Throughout her years in Lethbridge, she enjoyed curling, playing bridge, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family.

Besides her loving spouse, Stan Dean, June will be deeply missed by her surviving 2 daughters, Heather (Warner) Loat, Brenda (Michael) Hogan and son Roy (Dawn) Hood. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Erin (Jay) Myren, Andy Loat, James (Dannielle) Hood, Jennifer (Luke) Hood and Curtis Hood, 5 great-grandchildren, Kalei, Jordan, Mila, Macy and Aria, along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

June is predeceased by her husband Bill Hood, her daughter Robin Payne, son-in-law Glen Payne, her parents Roy and Ellen Topp, sister Muriel Miller, and brothers Lynwood & Leonard Topp.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Garden View Lodge in Lethbridge, for their thoughtful caring ways these past 4 years.

June would have loved to have everyone together to celebrate her life, however with the current health restrictions it is not possible. The immediate family members will be paying their respects privately at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 10, 2021. A live stream will be made available through the Martin Brothers Funeral Chapel website at https://www.mb funerals.com/obituary/MargaretJune-Hood. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted on June’s obituary.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in June’s name can be made to the MS Society of Canada or the Ladies Auxiliary Legion Branch No. 4.

Stan and family members it is with our deepest sympathy that we think of June. I often attended Legion suppers with my dad Jack Fettig and we loved to sit at the same table as Stan and June. June was such a thoughtful lady and she always made me feel very welcome to be there. She was a truly, lovely lady.
