MARVIN BAKER

1933 – 2020

Marvin Walter Baker passed away in Edmonton on December 9, 2020 at the age of 87. Marvin was born to Walter and Carrie Baker of Sundial on May 5, 1933. His siblings were sister Arlene (deceased) and brother Terrence. He is fondly remembered by his wife Keitha, son Ken, daughter Margaret, and grandchildren in Edmonton and Kelowna. Marvin passed away after a short period in an Edmonton hospital.

Marvin grew up on a dryland farm in the Sundial Community. Times were tough and work was physical. Marvin was interested in school and did well but because the Sundial school only went to grade 10, he chose to continue his schooling in Enchant. He rode his bicycle 3 miles to catch a bus to go to Highschool in Enchant and in the winter, he boarded with a family there. Marvin thought farming was all right but decided to become a teacher. After 2 years of university, he taught for 2 years in Enchant. He then went to University in Edmonton in 1958 to complete his degree. Marvin then moved to Sherwood Park and began teaching at Garneau High School in Edmonton where he remained for 20+ years.

Marvin had fond memories of playing baseball for Sundial and Enchant with his many young friends. He had a long and fulfilling life and will be missed by family and friends.
