WOOD

Mary Wood of Lethbridge was Promoted to Glory on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Legacy Lodge at the age of 86 years. She was a beloved friend to many and brought joy to those who met her and will be deeply missed.

Mary is survived by her sister Margaret Radin of Scotland; two nieces and a nephew in Scotland; two nephews in Australia as well as many extended family members in both Scotland and Australia. She was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Ellen Wood; her brother Tom Wood of Scotland and on April 13, 2021 by her sister Bridie Cunningham of Australia.

Mary was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and as a young woman began a lifetime journey of extensive travel. From London, backpacking through Europe, travelling to New Zealand and Australia, she eventually journeyed to Calgary spending some years there before finally settling in Lethbridge. She made many return visits to Scotland. Mary spent most of her working career at the University of Lethbridge as an Administrative Assistant in Student Services – Scholarships and Finance. She loved the students and was delighted in her later years to be greeted on the streets of Lethbridge by students with whom she had met. During this time Mary was a member of Professional Secretaries International and later the International Association of Administrative Professionals.

As an active soldier of The Salvation Army Community Church of Lethbridge, Mary was very involved in Youth Ministry and a member of the Songsters. Mary was also involved in Scouting, which began in Scotland and continued in Lethbridge. She volunteered at St. Michael’s Health Care Centre and for the Cancer Society for many years and will be fondly remembered for her contributions.

Mary did love to sing and entertain which continued even through to her last years at Legacy Lodge as she shared the traditional Auld Lang Syne on New Year’s Eve. She was blessed to spend her last years at Legacy Lodge where she continued to spread joy.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 22, 2021 with Major Don Bladen, officiating. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions the service will be by invitation only.
