Shirley Peterson

1939 – 2021

Shirley Annette Peterson of Red Deer, beloved wife of Selmer Peterson, passed away peacefully with family at her side on May 10, 2021 at the age of 81 years.

Shirley was born November 7, 1939 to Barney and Mary Ellefson in Lethbridge and raised in Enchant. She completed her teaching certificate and taught elementary school in Vauxhall before marrying Selmer in 1963.

She was an active member of the Enchant community and the Ibbestad Lutheran Church. She enjoyed participating in sports especially curling and golfing. Packing her golf clubs was a must for any holiday. Not only an active participant, but she also spent many hours in the hockey rink and at the ball diamonds as an avid fan of her boys and as her grandchildren came along, she spent hours at the soccer pitch, the basketball court and at dance recitals cheering always a loyal supporter of their activities.

On the farm in Enchant she spent hours in the yard and garden and enjoyed the outdoors. Camping trips with family and friends was always a highlight of the summer and winter trips to warmer climates was something to look forward to.

Besides her loving husband Selmer, Shirley is survived by her daughter Jacquie (Brian); sons Stacy (Teresa) and Martin; grandchildren Kiera, Mikayla and Corbynn Fujimoto and Jordyn and Reid Peterson; sister Bev Shelby and her brother Bryan (Linda) Ellefson; brother in law Darcy (Marlene) Peterson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Barney and Mary Ellefson; sister Maxine Janzen, brothers-in-law Jim Shelby, Shagg Janzen and Dennis Peterson.

A public Viewing will be held from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at Martin Brothers Riverview Chapel 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
