REEDER, Dorothy

February 8, 1928 – June 1, 2021

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of DOROTHY PEARL REEDER of Picture Butte, AB on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Mom was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, auntie and friend.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Shirley Olsen, Patti Phillips (Tom), and Laurie Reeder (Alan), 9 grandchildren, Tracey, Christie, Michelle, Tobie, Terri-Jo, Michael, Mandy, Neil and Starr, and 22 great-grandchildren, sister, Melba Bergman (Mel) and brother Frank Dewsbery (Ruth) and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Jack, son David, son-in-law Karl Olsen and parents Frank (Duke) and Edith Dewsbery.

Mom was born in Raymond AB and moved to Picture Butte when she was in Grade 4. Duke worked at the sugar factory and they lived on “Brick Row”. Mom attended school in Picture Butte where she was an honor student and loved English, art, math, spelling and writing. She also loved tennis, skating, swimming and dancing. As a young lady Mom worked part-time at Godfrey’s theatre and Price’s Pharmacy. One day Dad came into the pharmacy to buy a newspaper and the joke is that he got a newspaper and date for 15 cents! Mom and Dad were married September 26, 1949. After living in Melfort, SK for a year they moved to Lethbridge and then back to Picture Butte where she lived until her passing.

Mom worked many years as the Picture Butte librarian and at the Scotia Bank making many memorable friendships.

Mom was always proud of her British heritage and cherished her trip to England with Duke. She fondly reminisced her dream trip to Hawaii and always looked forward to the summer day trips to Waterton.

Mom had a beautiful testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and served in many callings over the years. She was well known for her famous lemon meringue pie and hand-dipped chocolates at Christmas.

Mom had a great love for her family and played a big part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they all love her deeply. She was an example of strength, integrity and humility. She was kind to everyone and was a very special Auntie to her nieces and nephews. Mom always had a positive outlook on things and you never heard her complain, she always “danced in the rain”. We will always cherish our memories and be so grateful to have been blessed with such a special spirit we know as Mom.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Wong for all his care the past 10 years and for always putting a smile on Mom’s face. Also, thank you to Piyami Place for their care this past year.

Friends are invited to meet the family on Sunday June 6, 2021 from 7:00-8:00 pm at SALMON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 433 Stubb Ross Road South, Lethbridge. Due to Covid Restrictions, attendance will be limited to 20 guests at a time. Please register by calling Salmon and Sons Funeral Home.
