BRUYCKERE

BRUYCKERE – LUCIEN PETER, beloved husband of Lorraine Bruyckere, passed away at the St. Michael’s Covenant Health Centre on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the age of 83 years.

Besides his loving wife Lorraine of 60 years, Lucien is survived by his two children, Dean (Claudia) Bruyckere of Parksville, B.C. and Myrna-Jean (Dann) Burroughs of St. Albert, AB. He is also survived by his brother Wayne Bruyckere of Calgary, AB, sister in-law Eileen (Edward) Ivanics of Lethbridge, AB, his four grandchildren, Chandler & Richelle Bruyckere, both of Calgary and Emma & Ethan Burroughs, both of St. Albert and his niece, Colleen Leadbetter of Missoula, MT.

Lucien was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Freda Bruyckere, his parent-in-laws, Andrew and Elizabeth Salamon and his sister-in-law, Phyllis Bruyckere.

Lucien was born October 13, 1937 in Lethbridge and was raised on the family farm east of Milk River, AB. In January 1960, Lucien attended a wedding dance in Milk River and that is where he met the love of his life Lorraine; each had met their soul mate. They married July 29, 1961, settling in Lethbridge. In 1962 he attended Southern Alberta Institute of Technology where he earned his ticket in Welding and Pressure Welding. He used that education and found work as a welder at Noble Cultivators and Horton Steel. In 1979 he left welding and found work with the Lethbridge Public School Division where he started with the Maintenance Department and later moved to Custodial work at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI) and Fleetwood Bawden School before retiring in 1999.

During the years of raising a family, Lucien was always busy gardening, tending meticulously to his lawn & yard, detailing vehicles, prepping the trailer for family camping trips, planning hunting adventures, watching baseball, following his son’s baseball teams throughout Canada & USA, going to supper & dances with Lorraine and spending time with family & friends at dinner gatherings.

Over the years, Lucien & Lorraine’s love for each other and their family led to many road trips to visit their children and grandchildren all over British Columbia and Alberta, as they were always a priority. After retirement, Lucien kept busy puttering around the house and coffeeing with many friends at Polly’s, Tim Hortons and McDonald’s, just to name a few.

We wish to extend our thanks to the staff of “A House” at St. Michael’s Covenant Health Centre, for the compassionate and loving care they provided Lucien over the past 15 months.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Hungarian Canadian Old Timers Hall, located at 410 – 2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m.

In memory of Lucien, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Covenant Health Centre, 1400 – 9 Avenue South, Lethbridge AB, T1J 4V5.
