RASMUSSEN

With profound sadness, the family of Gayla “Lala” Lorraine Rasmussen announces her unexpected passing due to heart failure on September 4, 2021, at 57 years of age.

Born April 19, 1964, Gayla is predeceased by her parents Rodney and Marge, brother Kim, and first husband, Devon. Her passing leaves an immeasurable hole in the lives of her husband Bert, sons Dustyn and Mitchell (Jessica), grandchildren Darius, Rylee and Reyden, and her brother Randal (Debra) Arndt. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, friends and family alike.

Born and raised in southern Alberta, Gayla spent her decades in the small community of Coaldale where she was known and loved by many of the locals. She took pride in being a vital thread in the fabric of Coaldale’s culture in roles such as the organizer of many Slo-Pitch events, being the best waitress in town and being the manager of several local establishments.

Her husband Bert most fondly remembers his times spent with Gayla in her favourite place, the outdoors. They spent many of their days together camping, fishing and spoiling their dogs. If you knew Gayla, you knew she had a special place in her heart for all animals. This love and compassion drove their commitment to rescuing and adopting many dogs together over the years. In addition, Gayla inspired many with her impeccable cooking and crafting skills. She was always known for creating personalized gifts and would seldomly be caught giving a “store-bought” gift without a bit of her sparkle.

Gayla loved many things in life, but she found renewed strength in the time she spent with her family and friends. The love she had for everyone, especially her grandchildren, was apparent to all those who had the pleasure of knowing Gayla. Our hope is that her memory encourages everyone to make the most of every moment with loved ones, just as she did.

Gayla’s family will announce details of a Celebration of Life in the future. In her memory, please consider donating to the Lethbridge Humane Society or your local animal rescue.
