Peter Douglas Berger

1958 – 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great brother, uncle, friend, mentor among a great many other titles. Peter Douglas Berger, better known to all as Doug, passed away after a long-fought battle with many different ailments including cancer. He died peacefully at the St. Mike’s Palliative Care center with one of his favourite people, Jaquelyn by his side.

Doug was born in High River on February 4, 1958. He was predeceased by both of his parents, Harold Peter (Peter) and Donalda Blanche (Dona) Berger. He leaves to mourn his oldest sister Rhonda Berger and her children Chay (Corie), Feuser, Shenny (Don) Grimard, Brady Houle (Manda) and Denny Houle. He also leaves behind his great nieces and nephews, Riian, Addisyn and Cayson Feuser, Navie and Aspen Grimard and Braxon Houle. He was also loved by his little sister, Sonja Baker and her children Levi, Kaelan and Jaden Baker.

Doug was loved by all who knew him. He touched many, many lives in his time here and each one of us will think of Doug and smile. He was an extremely talented musician and artist as well as athlete in his younger days. He was blessed with an incredibly positive outlook and even after suffering a major brain injury, he always told everyone what a great life he had. He felt so blessed to have all of his friends and he was always sure to make people feel special and to feel loved. He was a kind, gentle, generous and genuine person.

We will be having a celebration of Doug’s life after the Covid restrictions have been lifted and we can get together and celebrate.

We would like to say a special thank you to the team from the Brain Injury Relearning Institute including Jaquelyn, Janelle and Rachel. We would also like to thank Caren and Izzy for bringing so much love and joy to Doug’s last year of life. Lastly, thank you to Dr. Walsh and the team at the Palliative Care Center for giving Doug such great care in his last days. They were all angels here on earth.

Doug has asked that in lieu of flower, donations can be made to the Last Chance Cat Ranch or to MADD.
