Arie Veluw

1931 – 2021

Mr. Arie Veluw of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved husband of Mrs. Henny Veluw, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2021 at the age of 90.

Arie was born on February 27, 1931 in Niekerk, Holland. As a young man, he was inspired by the dedication of the Canadian troops that brought liberation to Holland during World War 2. It was then that he resolved to immigrate to Canada. Arie arrived in Canada in 1955. After a time of working with Calgary Power, he settled in Southern Alberta, and fell in love with the love of his life, Henny Donkersgoed. Arie and Henny were married for 64 years. During this time, Arie fully committed to his thriving dairy farm. He also manifested kindness and compassion to others by sitting on church councils and school boards. But, more importantly, he was the proud father of six children. He was their role model, their mentor and confidante. Family gatherings with his children and enjoying their accomplishments were always moments of great joy for him.

Arie’s family extend special thanks to the many family members, friends, and palliative care team who provided support this last year. Together, they were able to honor his wish to be cared for in his home.

Arie leaves to cherish these memories with his wife, Henny, his children Alice (Stan), Terry (Randy-deceased), Susan (Doug), Richard (Cindy), Anita (Ken) and Heidi (Russel); along with his fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Also, mourning his loss are Arie’s sister, Janny Van Hierden, brothers Jan and Gerrit (deceased); as well as Henny’s brothers Tymen and Ken and sister, Anna, along with brothers, Gerrit, Bert and sisters Jans, Tina, Molly, and Steina (deceased). Arie’s nieces and nephews also mourn their Uncle Arie.

Dad is predeceased by his parents Albert and Aartje van Veluw and Henny’s parents, Klaas and Mia van Donkersgoed.

We will all miss Dad’s ability to string a tale, his sense of humor, his enquiring mind, his servant’s heart and his keen interest in those he was in relationship with. He was our consummate hero and treasure-husband, father, grandfather and role model. Our tears flow freely as we miss him deeply, but we are assured that he is fully healed and whole and rejoicing before His Lord and Savior. He is finally in his eternal home.

In honor of Arie, we ask that you support Streets Alive at https:// streetsalive.ca/donate/.

A Celebration of Life will be held in early January 2022.
