Magnus “Mag” Nelson

1933 – 2022

It is with great sadness the family of Mag Nelson announce his passing in Lethbridge, on Thursday March 24, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Mag was born in Ormiston, Saskatchewan on July 25, 1933, the son of Nicholai Nelson and Clara (Berglund). He spent his early life in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan which is also the birthplace of all of his children. He began his work life with the CPR as a claims agent. In the early 1960’s he became a broker with Richardson Securities and in 1971 he transferred to Lethbridge, Alberta and continued his career until his retirement at an early age of 56 in 1989.

Mag was an avid golfer throughout his life until recently. He made many friends in the golfing community in Saskatchewan and Alberta. His early retirement enabled him to pursue his passion of golfing with the love of his life and soul mate Lorraine. Together they enjoyed their shared love of the game and many excursions in their second joy of travelling in their motorhome, especially spending winters in Arizona.

He is survived by his five children, Jamie (Don), Jeff (Bonnie), Laurie (Baki), Scott, Mike and stepdaughter Mary Ellen (Rob). He also leaves behind his cherished grandsons Elijah, Nigel, Jeremy, Christopher, Spencer, Nathan, and Elliot; five great grandchildren, Natalie, Gabrielle, Evan, Carter, and Aditi; and also the Kemp children, Michaela, Daniel, and Jenna Lorraine. Left to mourn are his Special Companion who he was blessed to meet later in life Shirley Huzil, his sister Irene, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Mag was predeceased by his wives Diane, Lorraine and Cecile; siblings Ida, Wilma, Emil, and Nora; and nieces Sharon and Sheila.
